Job Responsibilities:
Responsible for the coordination of Head Start programming. Instructs pre-school children in a classroom setting, developing approved curriculum and providing parent education and skill development. Responsible for implementing school readiness goals, child, outcomes, and promoting parent, family and community engagement.


Job Qualifications:
Valid Minnesota teaching license Birth to Grade 3, Pre-K, Pre-Primary, or ECSE. Experience working with young children and families. Experience in curriculum development and adaptation. Regularly lifts 50 pounds and occasionally more. Valid driver’s license. Current CRP/First Aide certificate required. Background check required.

Needed Attributes: Awareness of, sensitivity to, and ability to work effectively with young children and families from a variety of social, cultural, and economic backgrounds. Supervisory, management and organizational skills. Communicates effectively, both verbally and in writing.


Essential Functions:
  • Manages site in its entirety and maintains compliance with federal performance standards, state licensing requirements, and CACFP (Child Care Food Program), and maintains confidentiality.
  • Responsible for the safety of all enrolled children following Head Start Health/Safety and Program Standards of Conduct policies and procedures.
  • Implements designated Head Start curriculums and facilitates learning with intentionality to meet school readiness goals that includes daily kneeling, bending, stooping, and sitting on the floor to attend to children’s needs.
  • Responsible for child assessments including computerized data collection, entry, reporting, and analyzing child outcomes.
  • Supervises, schedules, trains, and evaluates staff
  • Manages site and nutrition budgets, inventorying all equipment, materials and supplies.
  • Conducts screenings, makes referrals, and implements individualized plans for children in collaboration with the Head Start Management Team, the classroom team, specialist/consultants, and families.
  • Conducts required parent/teacher conferences and home visits and participates in transition meetings with school district personnel
  • Responsible for individualized care of children including but not limited to administration of medication, special diet needs, toileting and diapering and Individual disability accommodations
  • Participates in weekly site team meetings and assists Family Service Staff in the planning and participation of parent meetings/trainings
  • Supports the Parent, Family Community Engagement goals and activities
  • Plans and implements classroom and field trip experiences and opportunities for family and community volunteers
  • Participate in all program training and selected individualized professional development.
  • Pilots projects for federal, state and local initiatives
  • Maintains confidentiality.
  • Is a mandated reporter
Additional Information
Substitute Head Start Teacher needed in various classrooms to include: Virginia, Chisholm, MIB, Ely, Babbitt. Hours as needed. Starting wage: $23.60/hr. Position open until filled. AA/EOE
